Joy Rogalla, President
Joy has been a SUTA board member since its inception in 2009, and has been president since 2020. She enjoys the outdoors and especially hiking with her dog, Chloe. She retired from her environmental consulting career in 2022, which has allowed more time for SUTA projects. She also enjoys gardening, cooking, travel, and time with friends and family. Her husband, Jim, is an honorary board member and is SUTA’s chief engineer/logistics/equipment coordinator. They live on Sterling Creek.
Annette Parsons, Vice President
Annette has been a core supporter of SUTA since its inception in 2009, and Vice President and/or Secretary since 2019. She has been an equestrian most of her life, and also loves hiking, kayaking, backpacking, and camping in general. She retired from her career as a soil scientist and GIS specialist and enjoys supporting community organizations and parks with cartography and map work. Her husband, Jim, has also been a SUTA active supporter since 2009 and has served on the board. They live in the Middle Applegate Valley with their horses and cat.
Sam Dennis, Treasurer
Sam lives in the Applegate with his wife Liz and has been a board member since early 2024. He likes to hike, bike, boat and travel. Sam and Liz are both active community volunteers in other recreational assets in the Applegate Valley as well as their involvement with SUTA. Sam has helped pioneer and buildout the solar energy industry for residential and community installations in Alaska.
Laurie Fritts, Secretary
Laurie is new to the SUTA board and has served as Secretary since early 2024. Her background as a Physical Therapist serves her well in her active outdoor pursuits. She brings energy and ideas to the organization and loves hiking with her two tiny dogs, xxx and yyy.
Christine Chumbler, Member at Large
Christine has served on the SUTA board since 2017. She is a freelance writer/editor and brings her skills to help with SUTA community outreach. She loves to hike or run with her corgi, Barry, as well as visiting national and state parks from coast to coast in her little teardrop trailer and traveling internationally. She is a proud returned Peace Corps Volunteer.
Anne Carter, Member at Large
Anne lives in Medford with her husband, Steven. They pursue a lot of outdoor activities including trail running. There are so many beautiful trails to explore in Southern Oregon, and as they have used the trails, they noticed that it takes a community of dedicated people to maintain and develop them. She joined the SUTA board several years ago because she wants to help maintain and build the Jack-Ash and Sterling Mine Ditch Trail systems. Anne manages the Medford Food Coop, and still finds time to run, hike, and volunteer at SUTA work parties and other events.
Nolan Richard, Member at Large
Nolan is new to the SUTA board in 2024 and brings fresh ideas and perspective. He works as an elementary school teacher and loves hiking and developing educational outdoor activities for grade school students. He is also a very hard worker at our SUTA trail work parties and events.
