Notice of Recreational Target Shooting Closure on Public Lands in the Anderson Butte Area of Jackson County, OR

A recent email from Medford BLM District Manager, Lauren Brown, announces:

I am pleased to inform you that the Federal Register Notice for the Anderson Butte Safety Project has finally published today. This is the final step in the lengthy process to establish a temporary closure for recreational target shooting at specific sites in the Anderson Butte area. The publication of the FRN establishes an effective date for enforcement of the closure of October 20, 2022 for a period of two years. The FRN can be found here:

Over the next 30 days, we will be installing signs at the entrances to the area as well as the locations where the restrictions are in effect. We will also be sending out a press release to inform the general public today, and posting the information on our website. Patrols by LEO will continue throughout the area, with an emphasis on education in the beginning. Over the next two years we will be monitoring the effectiveness of the closure and strategizing on next steps to permanently resolve this recreational use conflict.

I want to thank you for your continued patience, engagement, and input throughout this long process. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
