Who: BLM is hosting a National Public Lands Day event on the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail – with help from SUTA.
What: Volunteers will help re-route a steep section of trail that currently goes over the tunnel. At the 2014 Public Lands Day event, we re-routed the trail on the other side of the tunnel with the crew shown below. This time we will tackle the section shown in the picture, making a smoother and safer route for trail users to enjoy. We will create a new trail segment between the Tunnel Ridge access trail and Sterling Mine Ditch Trail and decommission the old trail section. Great views, fun work and entertaining people! There is a moderate 1 mile hike to get to the work site; volunteers should be prepared to hike and be away from their vehicles for several hours. Bring water, and gloves. A bagged lunch will be provided to carry up to the site. Siskiyou Upland Trails Association (SUTA) will bake treats for everyone to enjoy during the morning.
Where: Meet at the Tunnel Ridge Trailhead of the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail, Little Applegate Road
When: Saturday, Sept 24, 2016 from 8:30 AM – 1 PM
