National Public Lands Day September 27th, 2014
Who: The Medford BLM and SUTA are hosting a National Public Lands Day event on the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail. This is a wonderful opportunity for those who enjoy recreation on our public lands to give back by volunteering on a project. The volunteer projects on the Sterling Mine Ditch will focus on a re-route of a short section of the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail near the Tunnel at the top of the Tunnel Ridge Trailhead and installing signs and an interpretive sign post for the actual tunnel.
When: The event will be 8:30 AM – 1 PM – meeting at the Tunnel Ridge Trailhead.
What: Volunteeers will help re-route a steep section of trail at the tunnel at the junction of the Tunnel Ridge access trail and Sterling Mine Ditch Trail, decommission the old trail section, and install an interpretive sign at the tunnel. There is a moderate 1 mile hike to get to the work site; volunteers should be prepared to hike and be away from their vehicles for several hours. Bring water and gloves. Lunch provided. The Siskiyou Upland Trails Association (SUTA) will bake treats for everyone to enjoy.
Where: Meet at the Tunnel Ridge Trailhead of the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail – Little Applegate Road – for detailed driving directions click here.
