Now that the Sterling Mine Ditch is an Oregon Scenic Trail, we need to make sure the trail continues to live up to that designation! Trimming brush and leveling uneven tread are ways community volunteers can help keep this trail in great shape and enjoyable to use. And it will help keep you in shape, too!
We’ll meet once-a-month – usually the third Saturday– November through April. Come join us for a morning work party and lunch, and if you like, you can hike in the afternoon and see tangible results from your work!
Our first work party will focus on the trail sections around the new Armstrong Trailhead. We will hike about 6 miles roundtrip, returning to the Armstrong Trailhead for lunch. This lovely trail section passes through lush forest, oak woodlands, and dry south-facing slopes, affording views of mountains to the south and west.
When: November 15th– Saturday 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM (includes lunch provided by SUTA)
Where: Armstrong Trailhead, turn onto the Deming-Armstrong Road off of Sterling Creek Road close to the 9 mile marker. For detailed driving directions download these directions. Click Here.
What: Brushing and minor tread work on the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail from Armstrong Trailhead south towards Wolf Gap. We will hike about 6 miles roundtrip from the trailhead.
What to Bring: Wear comfortable hiking or work boots, dress in layers and bring gloves. If you have them, please bring loppers, a pruning saw or a tread tool such as a Pulaski, Grubber, or sturdy shovel. Bring water and whatever snacks you like. SUTA supplies additional trail tools.
RSVP: If you plan to come, please email SUTAoregoncontact@gmail.com so we can plan the work party and food! Thank you
